Molekule Air Purifier Review: Is it worth it?

Sadly in the modern age, pollution isn’t the only thing to worry about. We wear masks stepping out of homes to protect against dust and smoke. Do we need one indoors too? Going by research, maybe we do.

Several respiratory allergies, about which we’re clueless most of the time, are a result of “indoor pollutants”. Dust mites, bacteria, and pet dander, all of which are microscopic. Thankfully, air purifiers come to our rescue. But which one is worth our money?

In a detailed Molekule air purifier review, we realised this one totally is. Let’s look at its individual features for better understanding.

1. Design

Molekule Air Purifier Design Review

Molekule air purifier has an extremely clean and sleek design and you’d love placing it in any room on a table top (hardly uses any space at all). The premium leather handle allows for easy portability between rooms. Machined aluminium material has been used for the outer body construction which is pretty durable.

There’s also a blue LED light ideal for use at night which can be conveniently switched on/off as per convenience. There are a host of other useful features given on the convenient digital touchscreen display, making it perfect for use, even for a first-timer. Can be used both indoors and balcony/garden.

2. Purification Stages

Molekule Air Purifier filter Review and how it works

Molecule air purifier carries out air filtration in 4 stages. Its 2 filters do this job effectively:

A. Pre-filter–As the name suggests, this filter is designed to filter out all unwanted indoor pollutants at the initial stage of air purification. At the next stage, Molekule air purifier will completely destroy those pollutants, leaving you with only fresh, clean, healthy and nicer-smelling air in the house.

The pre-filter traps large allergen bodies that may be present in the air which passes through the filter. These may include dust mites and pet dander. As for the smaller polluting substances like VOCs, the pre-filter hinders their movement in the air that circulates through it. This works like a preliminary attack on the small pollutants.

B. PECO filter–PECO stands for Photo Electrochemical Oxidation, a nanotechnology employed by Molekule air purifier. PECO filter is considered extremely effective in destroying microscopic viruses, VOCs, allergens, bacteria, and mould that are invisible to the naked eye.

Molekule’s proprietary technology, PECO is a result of extensive research conducted by scientists over two decades. The technology uses free radicals (also used to destroy cancerous cells in humans) to destroy pollutants that exist at the molecular level.

With the use of nanotechnology, PECO has the ability to work on pollutants that are 1000 times smaller than those which conventional HEPA filters can capture. In this regard, PECO is definitely way superior than HEPA technology.

Most air purifiers in the market today use the standard HEPA filters for air filtration processes. It is believed to only capture and filter out most large and small pollutant particles from indoor air.

However, PECO goes a step further in destroying even the molecular-level pollutants, which can’t generally be noticed by the naked eye and which even HEPA filters may fail to trap.

In the Molekule air purifier, the PECO filter light activates the nanoparticle-coated filter. Once activated, a chemical reaction is created which destroys molecular-level pollutants in the air.

3. Room Coverage

Room Coverage of the Molekule Air Purifier

Molekule has been carefully designed for use in rooms as large as 600 sq. ft. This means that you can easily place one in your master bedroom, living room, or family room. Besides, it has a handle that allows for easy portability between rooms. While you may better use a dedicated large space air cleaner for joined rooms or condominiums, this one serves just right if your rooms are appropriately insulated.

The purifier has immense power to change the air in the room that it’s placed in every hour. In other words, it can comfortably cover a room area of 600 sq. ft/hour. You can now sit back and relax in any room you like without worrying about the air being impure. Molekule air purifier’s got your back.

4. Energy Efficiency

When buying any electronic appliance for home use, it’s important to consider its average power consumption. If the device uses more power, it will reflect strongly on your monthly energy bill. Ideally, it’s advisable to look for devices that consume energy anywhere below 100 watts, preferably tested on their highest setting.

Coming to Molekule air purifier, it’s a perfect little energy-efficient unit for everyday use in your house. The device uses only 20-85 watts of energy when in operation. Its mini version – Molekule Air Mini – uses only 18-53 watts! This means that you never have to worry about your monthly bills going overboard.

5. Extra Features

Molekule Air Purifier App features and other extra features review

I. Auto Mode

Activation of the auto mode initiates an automatic air-cleaning process. This means that the device will now keep running at a single optimal running point for the specific room in which it has been placed. The unit will ensure that the room’s air quality is optimally maintained at all times.

II. 360° Air Intake

Molekule air purifier is proficient in capturing circulation of air in the room from every possible angle. This assures maximum efficiency of the product as pollutants hiding in every nook and corner of the room can be best trapped therein. This guarantees safer and healthier air in every room of the house.

III. Wi-Fi-Compatible

The unit is a smart device keeping in times with today’s needs. You can easily connect the purifier with your Wi-Fi connection and control the unit from a remote location in the house or outside. This can be made possible via an Android or iOS app downloaded on your smartphone. Out of the many air purifiers that we’ve reviewed, very few classify as smart devices. Including the Molekule air purifier, the Coway Airmega 400S and the Rabbit Air Minus A2; both have got Wi-Fi connectivity for convenient operation.

IV. Digital Touch Display

The digital touchscreen on the display panel of the purifier allows for easy operation and control, even by a first-time user. The instructions to be followed are clearly demonstrated on the display screen which can be accessed by the touch of a finger. You can change the mode and access other features here.

6. Price

Molekule air purifier comes at a price of $799 if purchased directly from the manufacturer (Molekule). However, you may get it at a further discounted price if you choose to buy it on frequent online sales.

The cost may seem a tad bit higher when compared to other purifiers in the market with nearly similar features. Still, Molekule definitely beats all others with its unique PECO filter technology.

Other HEPA and TRUE-HEPA air filters in the market may be available at relatively lower prices; yet, they can’t match up to the molecular-level destruction of pollutants that PECO performs.

Verdict – Our Thoughts on the Molekule Air Purifier

Only for the exclusive PECO technology that Molekule air purifier guarantees, it has to be treated as a standalone product in this category. At least until other manufacturers, currently selling HEPA-filter air purifiers, can come up with the same or relatively similar feature.

Another great scoring point for Molekule is that it doesn’t emit ozone into the atmosphere it operates in. Instead, it works on completely destroying indoor air pollutants. So no worry over ozone and rest assured a healthier, cleaner and pleasant-smelling air to enjoy all day long. To experience an allergy-free life, we think paying a slightly higher price is definitely worth it.
